2.1 Surgery and Stroke

This procedure uses Male Hooded Wistar rats, aged 10–12 weeks (280–360 g). Rats are housed on a 12-h day/night cycle with temperature maintained between 18 °C and 22 °C and maintained on a standard chow diet. Rats are dually housed prior to surgery, but are housed separately after surgery to ensure no disruption to the indwelling guide cannula. Be sure not to use sawdust or shredded paper in the cages as dust from these can easily settle in the ET-1 guide cannula and cause it to become blocked prior to stroke.1.Rats.
